Sermon: Jesus Christ, the Power and Wisdom of God

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 "As if you know everything." I still remember when I was in junior high school, that was the line of my English teacher every time the class was getting noisy,  and no one was listening to her. Can we assess ourselves if there’s a possibility that we can know everything? Is our knowledge or wisdom enough to help us and save us from all trials of this world? Can we rely on our knowledge or wisdom? Whom knowledge and wisdom do we seek and need? The message of our scripture in 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 is about Jesus Christ the power and wisdom of God.            1. We need the wisdom of God to be saved from the penalty of sin called death.    How can we assess if someone’s wisdom is worth believing?              In this modern world, there is a saying “to see is to believe.” Some might ask for evidence or rational reason to believe. Apostle Paul wrot...

The Inner Power: Jesus, the Word of God, and Prayer

“I have said this to you so that in me you may have peace. In the world you face persecution but  take courage: I have conquered the world!” , Jesus said this to his disciples before he was crucified, died, buried, and rose again. How am I preparing myself to overcome the challenges in the world? I will make Jesus Christ my strength. When I was a child and attending church, I heard about the story of Jesus Christ on his sacrificial death. This story came to me year after year, but I did not understand its true meaning until I reached my teenage years. Before, I had an experience of being unappreciated for being the class valedictorian during my primary education. I did not expect this title, for I know in myself that there are students who excel more than I do. It just happened that extracurriculars were part of the grading system, and I participated a lot. I was mistreated both in person and on social media about this matter. I think this was one of the reasons why I fee...

God's Call and Our Response

Biblical Reference Mark 1:14-20     In what season of life are you right now? What have you been doing? If someone intervenes to you while you are doing something or you are in such a season of your life, would lend your ear and pay attention?          Read Mark 1:14-20 In the passage that we read, there is a place called Galilee where Jesus went and proclaimed the good news of God, for the time was fulfilled and there is a need to repent and believe in the good news for the Kingdom of God is near. What do you think are the Galileans doing when Jesus was proclaiming? The Galileans are doing their daily routine and their lifestyles and livelihoods. For example, fishing. In verse 16 says, “ Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother casting a net into the sea- for they were fishermen.” What is the relevance of this in our lives?   The message of our devotion today is that Jesus has a call to all the peop...

A Poem Title: "You"

"You"   When I seek You, Lord, I find You When I read your Word, I get to know you When I desire to be with you, I'm so in love  When I hear your call, I follow You You show me Your will as I walk with You You put me in a place where You can mold me You have promised me my future, I'm not insecure  And I will trust You, Lord, all the days of my life O Lord, You taught me to sing hymns and songs of praises You have guided my hands to create music  You have shown me to love and serve others With that, I have learned to worship in spirit and truth I am yours, Lord, and You are with me As You carry Your cross, I take up mine I will serve You, Lord, with all my heart, mind, and soul and love others I am proclaiming You, Lord, for I am your servant forever and ever, and I give You glory forever more. Amen.

Devotion The Greatest Commandment

Matthew 22:34-40 NRSV The Greatest Commandment 34 When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, 35 and one of them, an expert in the law, asked him a question to test him. 36 “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” 37 He said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the greatest and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” Is it enough to just know? Is it enough to just know the greatest commandment? What is the greatest commandment? We should know the greatest commandment. And we should obey it as the LORD commands. In our text today, the beginning verse started with the Pharisees and the experts of the law gathered together. One of them questioned Jesus about the commandment. This one, who is a law expert, tried to test J...
