HIV Awareness (4) HIV Closing Session

The field practicum class went to the United Methodist Church Head Quarters in Ermita, Manila, on April 20, 2024, from 1:00-5:00 PM. We have our closing session, basic counseling session, and debriefing with A.P.W.A.I. members and the deaconess in charge.

During the closing session, we shared our learnings, realizations, and reflections on our exposure to the activities and the lives of people living with HIV. We have talked about our experiences during HIV Awareness at Wesleyan University, our encounters and discussions with PLHIV, and visitation in the shelter for PLHIV, the PAFPI.

Even though, we, the field practicum students have differences in how to perceive things, we have received a common message from the issue of HIV. We have learned that PLHIV doesn’t want us to pity them but instead they want us to give them 3Ps (Pang-unawa, Pagtanggap, Pantay na karapatan). They want us to give them our understanding of their situation, to accept them as human beings, without condemnation and judgment, to give them love, care, support, and hope, and to give them equal treatment and rights.

PLHIV are experiencing incurable disease (for now) and undeniable discrimination, but they still find the reason to live because they have found hope and love from Jesus Christ through us who are reaching out to them and continuously giving them the care, love, and support that they need.

At the end of our session, all of us uttered a prayer for the PHLIV and the whole organization and related programs about HIV.

Dear God, thank you for the awareness that you have given us. And help us Lord to act according to your will. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Sermon- Being a living Testimony for Christ

Text: Matthew 5:16 NRSV In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. Theme: Being a living Testimony for Christ Introduction: When a child does something either good or bad. The people will ask, who's his/her parents? (Sino kaya ang mga magulang nito?)   Because many people believe in the saying " what a tree is, so its fruit" (kung ano ang puno siya rin ang bunga). In relation to the message of God today, our life brings testimony of what we believe in and who we believe in. As Christians, we have a connection with God and we are God's ambassador in this world. God became the source of our lives. But how are we carrying the name of the Lord as we continue to live day to day? Body: Three point- Discussion ----Know that God is the source of light. Just like how a light brings brightness to a dark room, we can let God shine in the world. God is the reason why we are ab...

Junior Year as student deaconess

Hello, my name is Jesemae Gael O. Gale from the Philippines. I am taking a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Education at Harris Memorial College, Taytay Rizal Philippines. I am now in my senior year and by God’s grace, am in my final year before becoming a full-fledged deaconess. Today, I would love to share my experiences in the last semester and testify to God’s grace and goodness in my life.                 In my third year or junior year, I had a combination of online classes and face-to-face classes. Last February, we had face-to-face classes for the very first time after two and a half years of online classes caused by the pandemic which made me experience the hands-on training of becoming a deaconess as I lived in the dormitory and be appointed at church outside the Harris community. I would like to share that we have tra...

ABCE- Senior Morning Devotion/ Farewell May 9, 2024 Biblical Reference James 4:13-15 Boasting about Tomorrow 13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a town and spend a year there, doing business and making money.” 14 Yet you do not even know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wishes, we will live and do this or that.” Ate Jes came from the municipality of Bolinao in the province of Pangasinan. Growing up in a small town and residing in a rural area which is surrounded by beaches and plains. Life in the province is simple and I have learned to be always grateful for what is served in front of me and avoid grumbling. That is how my parents taught and raised me.  I have a loving and very good cook mama and Papa. And that serves as their best feature as my parents.   I have a sister who...
