BE AUTHENTIC

Whenever I write, I always consider the language I should use. Growing up in a colonized nation (the Philippines), it is kind of hard to have the so-called “originality”. From language, culture, songs, and clothing, just to name a few, almost all of it is influenced by nations that colonized us in the past.

It is confusing to know who we really are as Filipinos. But what I realized now is that I should embrace the present and always be true to what I do and speak. As long as I do not forget to speak our native language (Filipino) and keep trying to use the dialects (Ilocano and Bolinao) I grew up with, even though I am not fluent and trying hard, I believe this will smooth out in its proper time.
Maybe in the long run, you will notice that my output will be written in mixed language. Speaking out on this matter helps me to be more authentic. Based on my experience, there were times when I could easily express myself in English and sometimes in Filipino. The most important thing here is that I am able to communicate and be understood by the readers.
In this writing journey, our goal is to always produce authenticity, so let’s strive for it. :)

HIV Awareness (3) Stories of the People Living with HIV

 The Field Practicum Class was scheduled to go at The United Methodist Church Headquarters in Ermita, Manila, on April 6, 2024, from 1:00-5:00 PM. The task prepared for us was to have a Focused Group Discussion or group interview with HIV patients.  The trip from Taytay Rizal to Manila is more or less two hours. We rode a jeep going to Sta. Lucia and a train from Sta. Lucia to Recto and another train from Doroteo Jose to the United Nations and we walked to the headquarters.  The session started with an introduction and brief discussion about HIV and AIDS and proceeded to the group interview. Three women were interviewed. The field practicum class has prepared a set of questions for the interview. HIV Awareness (1) Empowering Lives: Bridging Hope Through Compassionate Care (Engaging in HIV and AIDS Prevention, Care, and Treatment

  The Field Practicum Class joined the seminar about HIV and AIDS Awareness held on March 14-15, 2024 at Wesleyan University-Philippines in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija. We traveled almost five hours going there from Taytay, Rizal. The seminar was facilitated by the health workers, faculty, and staff of WUP, the Association of Positive Women Advocates, Inc. (A.P.W.A.I.), and the Board of Women’s Work of the United Methodist Church. Also, it was attended by the students of Wesleyan University, UMC Episcopal representatives, and other invited students like us (Harris Memorial College Students). The seminar started by opening worship followed by various sessions on HIV and AIDS awareness. The theme of the seminar was “Empowering Lives: Bridging Hope Through Compassionate Care (Engaging in HIV and AIDS Prevention, Care, and Treatment). Sermon: Jesus Christ, the Power and Wisdom of God

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 "As if you know everything." I still remember when I was in junior high school, that was the line of my English teacher every time the class was getting noisy,  and no one was listening to her. Can we assess ourselves if there’s a possibility that we can know everything? Is our knowledge or wisdom enough to help us and save us from all trials of this world? Can we rely on our knowledge or wisdom? Whom knowledge and wisdom do we seek and need? The message of our scripture in 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 is about Jesus Christ the power and wisdom of God.            1.
